Master a new skill and give your old furniture a new life – in a small group, with tutor assistance. Each student work on a piece of furniture of their choice, applying their knowledge and skills to literally transform it, into what in many cases is a work of art. In our courses we teach all the techniques – past and present - of upholstery, including the purpose and correct use of tools and working with fabrics whilst you redesign your chair.

Students will take their chair home after each class & bring it back for the next class.

Learning from the Upholstery course:

You will be learning a variety of traditional upholstery skills, tips & tricks, and hopefully a love of the craft. With few days to work through your project, you will learn below things:

• Finding a project for re-upholstery
• Fabric selection and make measurements
• How to fully strip, dismantle and re-assemble furniture for upholstering
• Stapling techniques
• Use upholstery sector hand and power tools
• Fit and apply final cover materials to furniture using basic techniques
• Cut, sew and fit skirts/fabrics to upholstered furniture
• Cut, sew and fit or fill cushions or pad
• Repair and touch up surfaces
• Modern vs traditional upholstery
